15 Calgary restaurant openings tracked: iQ Food Co debuts at The Core, Tony Roma's returns

Calgary's restaurant scene shows no signs of slowing into fall. Fifteen new venues are in the pipeline, mixing established chains returning to the city with local and regional newcomers.

iQ Food Co is opening its first Western Canada location at The Core Shopping Centre (324 8th Ave. SW), bringing a menu of nourishing, clean-eating dishes — veggie bowls, protein-packed bowls, smoothies, sandwiches, soups.

Tony Roma's is making a comeback at 601 8th Ave. SW, the space Mister M previously occupied. The chain is known for signature baby back ribs, its "world-famous" onion loaf, classic potato soup, plus seafood, steaks, and handhelds. The timing for its return comes after a years-long absence from Calgary's dining landscape.

UNA Pizza + Wine, a Calgary favourite known for California-style pies, is opening a new takeout location at Crowfoot Crossing later this year, offering pizza, pasta, and salads for pickup or takeaway.

Wingstop opened its first Calgary location at Deerfoot Meadows and is adding a second at CF Chinook Centre (6455 Macleod Tr.) with a live DJ booth and modern interior designed to handle high foot traffic.

Alva, a new Canadiana-themed restaurant, is a 6,000-square-foot space with 50-foot ceilings, a large central bar, and cozy seating. It utilizes outdoor space in front of The Edison with a two-tiered south-facing patio — seating at street level and elevated seating four feet above, shaded by a canopy. Located at 150 9th Ave. SW, it was slated to open this summer.

Poulet Rouge, a Quebec-born quick-service spot known for grilled chicken bowls with customizable bases, toppings, and sauces, is opening at CrossIron Mills (261055 Crossiron Blvd., Rocky View County) in the fall, describing its offerings as modern fusion cuisine.

Amato Gelato is expanding with a new location in West Springs, adding to its reputation for desserts and gelato in dozens of flavours.
