Eight, Calgary's celebrated fine-dining restaurant, has been named the second-best restaurant in North America for 2026, marking a major recognition in the city's culinary landscape.

The ranking, unveiled May 28 at a ceremony in New Orleans by the organization behind the World's 50 Best Restaurants, placed Eight just behind Chicago's Smyth and ahead of Ontario's Restaurant Pearl Morissette in third.

The list reflects deep Canadian representation. Beyond Eight and Pearl Morissette, five other Canadian spots made the top 50: Mon Lapin in Montreal (fifth), Quetzal in Toronto (eighth), Tanière3 in Quebec City (ninth), Le Violon in Montreal (fifteenth), and Published On Main in Vancouver (seventeenth).

Pearl Morissette also received the 2026 Art of Hospitality award, recognizing exceptional front-of-house service.

Eight's placement underscores Calgary's emergence as a serious fine-dining destination, competing on a continental stage alongside some of North America's most ambitious kitchens.
