Heated rooftop pool opens year-round downtown — swim under the winter sky

A heated rooftop pool at Hotel Arts in downtown Calgary stays open year-round, switching from open-air summer swimming to an inflatable-roof winter enclosure.

Freestyle Social Club sits atop Hotel Arts at 119 12th Ave. SW. During warm months, the pool is open to the air; when cold sets in, an inflatable roof covers the space, creating a warm indoor environment. The pool is heated daily and open to hotel guests and the public.

Non-hotel guests pay $15 per person, whether using the pool deck or lounge areas. Access is first-come, first-served, and fees may change on event days. The facility is designed as a place to spend extended time, not a quick dip: alongside the pool, Freestyle Social Club offers a full menu (breakfast, snacks, larger dishes), rotating daily Social Hour specials from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., and two Foresight digital golf simulators available for $45 per hour in 30-minute increments. Hotel guests get 50% off simulator bookings through the front desk.

Pool rules prohibit outside food and drinks, glassware near the water, diving, jumping, running, and drinks inside the pool. Swimwear is acceptable poolside; public areas require appropriate clothing and shoes.

Parking is free underground, accessed from 13th Avenue SW, with above-ground lots from 12th Avenue SW. Victoria Park/Stampede CTrain station is a seven-minute walk; bus stops are also along 1st Street SW, including stops near 13th Avenue SW.

Hours are 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday to Thursday, and 6:30 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday. Pool and golf simulator bookings are available online.
