Thousands of Calgarians will descend on the Beltline this Sunday for the Lilac Festival, the unofficial kickoff to summer that packs Mission with food, fun, shopping, and entertainment for all ages.

The street festival takes over 4th Street S.W. between Elbow Drive and 12th Avenue, plus two blocks along 17th Avenue S.W., from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on June 7.

Expect hundreds of vendors, six stages hosting live entertainment, a dedicated kids' zone, and street performers dotting the neighbourhood. The festival draws crowds year after year, creating an energetic street scene that feels like the whole city is out at once.

While the Lilac Festival isn't a food-only event, the food vendors are a major draw—tacos, wood-fired pizza, sweet treats, and everything in between line the street. The six performance stages keep energy high throughout the day, with everything from live bands to dance troupes to DJs.

The festival is free to enter and pet-friendly, making it an easy afternoon for families, friend groups, or anyone looking to get outside and feel that summer-is-finally-here energy. Parking can get tight, so arriving early or taking transit is recommended. The +15 from downtown connects to the area, and LRT service gets you close.

For the full vendor and entertainment lineup, check the Lilac Festival website before you head out.

It's the kind of day where the whole neighbourhood becomes a market, and for a few hours, Mission feels like the centre of the city.
