The Town of Okotoks hosted a weekend of Indigenous celebration at the Viking Rentals Centre from May 29-31, featuring dancers, drummers, artisans, and cultural educators from across Alberta.

The powwow marked the town's second annual event, drawing competitors and participants from across the province to celebrate through dance and drums. An All-Indigenous Artisan Market showcased hand-crafted beadwork, clothing, and art from Indigenous makers. The Tipi Camp served as a hub for activities including a special Town council meeting held inside a tipi, fireside storytelling, and a tipi-raising competition.

The weekend is part of Okotoks' commitment to advancing Truth and Reconciliation, with the events designed to celebrate Indigenous identity, history, art, and tradition through interactive activities and education. Organizers created space for the community to engage directly with Indigenous culture and learn from knowledge keepers and cultural leaders.

The events drew families, students, and residents interested in deepening their understanding of Indigenous peoples' contributions and presence in the region.
