The Okotoks Dawgs Academy advanced as the top seed for Sunday's quarterfinals at Baseball Canada's Road to Okotoks tournament after overpowering UBC Thunder 16-0 in Friday's pool play finale.
With a 3-1 record, the Dawgs earned the first seed based on the best run differential among five teams tied at that record. Slugger Louis-Charles Larouche hit his third home run in four games, while catcher Taye Thierman went deep for a three-run shot and Kadyn Armitage added a two-run double in the mercy-rule victory.
On the mound, Matthew Tran and Xander Guedes combined for a no-hitter across four innings, allowing just two walks. Larouche also won the day's Home Run Derby, continuing his hot streak at the plate.
Alberta teams have dominated the tournament, claiming four of the top five records. St. Albert's AHP Renegades, Vauxhall Academy, and the Thunder also finished as pool winners. The quarterfinals run Sunday starting at 3:30 p.m., with the Dawgs scheduled for the 7 p.m. match against the fourth seed from the play-in round.
