The Okotoks Marauders must rally quickly to keep their playoff run alive after falling into an early 2–0 hole against the top-seeded Calgary Shamrocks in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League Jr. B Tier 1 South Division Final best-of-five series.
Calgary won Game 1 on July 17 at the Stu Peppard Arena in Calgary with a 10–5 result, then sealed a 2–0 stranglehold Monday night with a dramatic 17–16 double-overtime victory. Aren Cej scored the series-clinching goal with 24 seconds remaining in the second overtime.
Okotoks' offensive firepower went largely silent in Game 2. Drew Dunbar and Ben Erickson combined for 20 points in the loss, with Dunbar tallying five goals and Erickson four. Owen Williams and Landry Mitton each scored twice, and Lyric Kleutsch added three assists. Calgary's top-seed status proved decisive, holding Okotoks' high-scoring attack to the lowest output of the series.
In Game 1, Calgary scored three unanswered goals in the third period to overcome Okotoks' early lead. Ben Erickson scored on a penalty shot for Okotoks, while Seth Garofalo, Blake Anderson, and Owen Williams added the other tallies in the loss.
Game 3 is set for Wednesday, July 22 at the Stu Peppard Arena at 8 p.m. If Okotoks can force a Game 4, it will take place July 24 at the Murray Arena in Okotoks at 8 p.m. Should the series extend to a full five games, Game 5 would be in Calgary at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 26.
