Photo radar will be deployed across 18 Calgary communities this July in an effort to reduce road collisions, the city announced Thursday.

The communities receiving photo radar include Canyon Meadows, Castleridge, Charleswood, Coventry Hills, Cranston, Evergreen, Falconridge, Haysboro, Lake Bonavista, Midnapore, Mount Pleasant, Panorama Hills, Sandstone, Skyview Ranch, Strathcona, Tuscany, Willow Park, and Windsor Park.

Photo radar vehicles will also be positioned at construction zones where workers are present. Community needs were identified through statistical analysis of collisions and citizen concerns.

In addition to photo radar, there will be 57 Intersection Safety Camera (ISC) locations throughout Calgary in July. These cameras photograph vehicles running red lights. Five locations will also capture speed-on-green infractions.

Motorists exceeding the speed limit by 50 km/h or more will have to appear in court before a judge. Those ticketed by photo radar will receive an Offence Notice/Violation Ticket mailed to the registered vehicle owner. Tickets can be paid at Provincial Court or online, following directions on the violation ticket. The ticket must be dealt with on or before the appearance date noted on the document.
