Photo radar arrives in 17 Calgary neighborhoods
The city is deploying speed enforcement cameras across communities this June as part of a collision-reduction effort.
Photo radar vehicles will be set up across 17 Calgary neighborhoods this month as the city works to reduce road collisions. In addition to the radar units, 57 Intersection Safety Camera locations will operate throughout June to catch vehicles running red lights.
Communities with photo radar coverage include Acadia, Aspen Woods, Beltline, Bridlewood, Castleridge, Chinatown, Cranston, Martindale, Patterson, Riverbend, Sandstone, Southwood, Sundance, Taradale, Thorncliffe, Walden, and Willow Park. Five of the intersection camera locations will also capture speed-on-green infractions.
The city identified community needs through statistical analysis of collisions and citizen concerns. Construction zones with active workers will also have photo radar in place.
Drivers ticketed for speeding 50 km/h over the limit will need to appear before a judge. Offence notices are mailed to the registered vehicle owner and can be paid through Provincial Court or online, with payment due by the appearance date on the ticket.
