19-year-old motorcyclist killed in Evanston after striking fire hydrant

A single-vehicle collision on Friday evening on Symons Valley Parkway left a teenager dead. Police are investigating excessive speed as a factor and seeking witnesses and dashcam footage.

A 19-year-old motorcyclist is dead following a single-vehicle collision on Symons Valley Parkway N.W. near Evanston View N.W. in the Evanston community on Friday, Sept. 4, at approximately 4:20 p.m.

Calgary Police say the motorcycle struck a curb, lost control, and struck a fire hydrant. The motorcyclist was declared deceased at the scene. Impairment is not believed to be a factor, but Calgary Police Traffic Section is investigating excessive speed as a contributing factor.

Police are seeking information from witnesses and asking anyone with dashcam footage from the area to come forward. They are also seeking to locate a black helmet believed to have been worn by the motorcyclist at the time of the collision. The road was closed for several hours following the crash and reopened Friday night.
