91 warrants executed in downtown Calgary enforcement sweep

Calgary Police and Alberta Sheriffs executed 91 outstanding warrants across downtown Calgary and surrounding areas on August 5 and 6, arresting 18 people in a co-ordinated enforcement push.

Of the warrants executed, 77 were criminal warrants — 25 tied to violent offences — and 14 were non-criminal. Many involved assault of a peace officer, resisting arrest, possession of a dangerous weapon, assault with a weapon, hazardous firearm storage, breach of probation, failure to attend court, or failure to comply with release orders. More than $3,000 in outstanding fines were also collected.

"This operation demonstrates the value of proactive enforcement and strong partnerships," said Sgt. Chelsea Karpenko with Calgary Police Service. "Investigators from the CPS and Alberta Sheriffs continue to actively pursue additional wanted individuals using intelligence gathered throughout this operation."

The two-day initiative complements the broader Safer Calgary program, which brings together police, enforcement and community partners including Calgary Community Standards, Calgary Transit Public Safety, and the Alberta Sheriffs to enhance safety in priority areas through strategic patrols, targeted enforcement, and referrals to support services.
