A Calgary couple who met "at first sight" on a horseback expedition in Patagonia will compete in Season 12 of Amazing Race Canada.
Filip Masetti, 39, a Brazilian-born horseback guide and public speaker, and his wife Clara Daval, 32, an Argentinian student, will race across Canada alongside nine other teams. The couple met in 2017 while Masetti was leading a horseback trip across the Americas; Daval later joined him on a month-long ride through southern Argentina. They now live in Calgary.
"I think the other teams have no idea what is about to happen here," Masetti said in the couple's introduction video. "We are going to be coming in hot, we are going to be coming in hard. We have seen this, we have imagined it, we watched the show so many times, and we are ready for whatever comes our way."
If they win, the couple plans to use the $250,000 prize and world trip to buy a ranch they'll name "The Amazing Ranch Canada."
Masetti and Daval compete against a colourful cast CTV announced Tuesday. DJ Keisha Gordon of Edmonton and model Nova Stevens—crowned Miss Universe Canada 2020—are best friends who met at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary. Metis and Cree sisters Chayla Rain and Cyana Marie Sage of Edmonton are granddaughters of Thelma Chalifoux, the first Metis woman appointed to the Canadian Senate.
Other competitors include Hamilton twin sisters Christina Liao, a corporate lawyer, and Elizabeth Liao, a family physician and obstetrician; and Canadian rap superstar Maestro Fresh Wes alongside longtime hip-hop collaborator Duane "D.O." Gibson.
The first episode has teams competing in Whistler, B.C. Calgary has produced two previous winners: Ty Smith and Kat Kastner won Season 9 in 2023, and Courtney Berglind and Adam Kovacs won Season 6 in 2018 during a finale in Banff.
