Shelby Boisjoli-Meged and her husband Haven Meged each won Stampede rodeo events on Saturday, July 4, marking a rare shared victory for the couple.

Boisjoli-Meged won the ladies breakaway roping with a 2.5-second wrap, claiming $7,000. Haven Meged took the tie-down roping in 7.0 seconds for another $7,000 first-place prize. Their nine-week-old son, Wylder, joined them on stage to accept the bronzes. "I don't think we've both won it the same day here," Haven said. "I won the championship here in '24, and she won in '25."

Boisjoli-Meged, from nearby Langdon, Alberta, made history last summer by winning the Stampede's first-ever breakaway roping title. She returned this year as the defending queen—and a new mother. Coming back to competition after pregnancy proved challenging. "I didn't know," she admitted about Saturday's win. "I was pretty nervous. I knew that I had a great calf, and I had a chance, but confidence-wise, I didn't know anything."

She'd had a rough start to the Stampede, losing her calf on Friday's first go-round. But by Day 2, her edge returned. "It's been pretty tricky coming back, especially trying to find my competitive edge," she said. "I'm just kind of wired. I just worry about Wylder all the time—he's all I think about. So it's been hard of kind of just to tell myself to focus on my business here and my job. I'm slowly getting back to that."

Recent travels had tested the family's resolve. Their bus broke down at Williams Lake Stampede the week before, but a win there covered the repair costs. Friends helped shuttle them between rodeos—from Williams Lake to Ponoka to Calgary. Asked how they'd celebrate their double victory, Haven laughed: "Now, we'll go to sleep. We're sleeping. We're not out there partying. And we'll buy some diapers with the money."
