Supra du Quebec beat Cavalry FC 2-1 in the first leg of the Canadian Premier League semifinal in Laval on Sunday. Cavalry, the league's regular-season champions, had won the CPL Shield by finishing first in the table.
Supra took an early lead. Zachary Brault-Guillard scored in the fourth minute, assisted by Loïc Kwemi. Eryk Kobza put through his own net in the ninth minute from a cross by Diyaeddine Abzi. Cavalry got a goal back late in the first half, when Tobias Warschewski scored from a rebound after a saved penalty.
"They came out flying, tough start from us, we didn't really stick to our gameplan and Supra punished us for it," said Daan Klomp, Cavalry centre back.
Supra captain David Choinière, speaking on OneSoccer, said: "I think we showed up today. The first 30 minutes we were front-foot, we pressed them, we played well, we created chances and that's the football we want to play."
Cavalry head coach and GM Tommy Wheeldon Jr. said: "Supra started far better than us, made an experience and it gave them a cracking lead to defend... Fortunately, we dug in like we usually do and kept it a one-goal game."
Cavalry were without captain Sergio Camargo, who is out several weeks, along with right back Adam Pearlman and winger Goteh Ntignee.
The second leg is at home, 3 p.m. at Spruce Meadows ATCO Field, with kickoff on Nov. 7 for both semifinals. Cavalry has not lost at home since July 2025, and set a league record for most home points in a single season en route to the Shield.
HighOnCity reported in July that Cavalry drew 1-1 with Halifax Wanderers at Spruce Meadows.
