Calgary has officially launched its search for a new chief administrative officer ahead of David Duckworth's departure on December 1, 2026.

Mayor Jeromy Farkas announced the administrative changes in late April. Chief operating officer Stuart Dalgleish, who also announced his retirement the same day, left his post on Friday, June 13.

Ward 3 councillor Andrew Yule, who chairs the city's CAO recruitment sub-committee, says council is focused on developing a job profile that reflects what the municipality needs. The city is working with recruiter Boyd & Company, Canada, selected to lead the process.

"We're going to have meetings over the next week here with councillors and the recruiting firm to make sure that job profile is ready to go," Yule explained. The goal is to finalize the job profile by early summer so recruitment can begin over the summer months.

Yule says Duckworth remaining in the role until December gives council time to conduct a thorough recruitment process. While the target is to have a replacement in place by then, finding the right candidate remains the priority. At this point, the position has not been advertised, and there are no candidates under consideration.
