Dog-tor Conrad Sparkles elected Calgary's third Dog Mayor at Pixel Park

Conrad, a mini schnauzer, was elected Calgary's third Dog Mayor of the Culture + Entertainment District at a Sunday event at Pixel Park, according to reports. He will also be the official dog of the Cenovus Grey Cup Festival.

The Dog Mayor is an ambassador for the district and advocates for events there, according to Joanna Pesta, programming and event senior manager with Calgary Municipal Land Corporation. Conrad's owner, Tom Sloan, said he entered after seeing entries being gathered at Pixel Park, and that the campaign started on Instagram. Conrad joined the family nine years ago from Lethbridge.

"I think it's amazing and we really enjoy exploring the city, getting out and seeing different parts of the city," Sloan told the Herald.

Christina Bullock, marketing and communication director for the district, said the organization approached Conrad's owners about a Grey Cup Festival appearance. "We think he's going to be the perfect dog mayor and the perfect dog for the Cenovus Energy 2026 Grey Cup Festival," she said. Calgarians will be able to meet, photograph and pet Conrad during the festival, which runs Nov. 11 to 14 at Stampede Park, ahead of the 113th Grey Cup at McMahon Stadium on Nov. 15.

The source does not give the Dog Mayor's term length or the vote count.
