Corus Entertainment, parent company of Global News, is closing its television studios in Calgary and Edmonton and consolidating newscast production to a central hub.
The Toronto-based company confirmed the changes Thursday as "part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen and sustain our news divisions." The company did not specify the number of jobs affected or where production will move, but said it remains "committed to delivering local news" in both Alberta cities.
"While some roles have been impacted as we centralize production, we are adding additional roles to continue providing news programming in these markets," a Corus spokesperson said. The company added it has "had to say goodbye to some of our Global News personalities" and changes will be reflected on air in the coming weeks.
Corus is coming off a rough financial quarter, with consolidated revenue down 16 percent for Q3 2026 and a net loss to shareholders of $36.5 million. Television revenue was down 16 percent for the three months ending May 31 compared to the same period in 2025. The closure follows Rogers Sport and Media's decision last week to cut 230 positions nationwide and shut down six radio stations, including Calgary's 660 NewsRadio and Sportsnet 960 The Fan.
