The Calgary Flames selected Joe Iginla, the youngest son of franchise legend Jarome Iginla, with the first pick of the third round at Saturday's NHL Draft.
The 17-year-old Vancouver Giants forward scored 15 goals and added 16 assists in a WHL season split between the Edmonton Oil Kings and Vancouver Giants. He's known for his strength on the forecheck and in battles along the boards.
Jarome Iginla remains the franchise's all-time leader across most statistical categories. He played 1,219 games in a Flames uniform — more than any player in team history — and leads the franchise in both goals and points. He currently serves as special adviser to Flames general manager Craig Conroy.
For fans who've kept Iginla jerseys hanging in closets since his retirement, Saturday's pick offers a chance to dust them off.
