William Stromgren scored his first NHL goal and the game winner Monday night as the Calgary Flames beat the San Jose Sharks 2-1 at SAP Center.

Adam Klapka opened the scoring and Jonathan Castagna had two assists, with the trio producing the offence. Stromgren, 23, was drafted in the second round, 45th overall, in the 2021 NHL Draft. He scored 11 points in 11 games with the Calgary Wranglers before his call-up, and played three games with the Flames last year without a point.

Flames head coach Ryan Huska called the fourth line "arguably our best line tonight." Goalie Dustin Wolf stopped 26 of 27 shots. Sam Dickinson scored San Jose's goal in the third period.

Calgary is now one point out of a playoff spot, having lost its first five games. The Flames play five games in the next 12 days.
