Former junior hockey exec Tyler King charged with child sex offences involving three players

Alberta RCMP have charged Tyler King, 39, a former assistant general manager and play-by-play broadcaster with the Okotoks Oilers, with three counts of luring a person under 18, sexual exploitation of a young person and making child pornography. The charges are allegations and have not been tested in court.

Police say the investigation began in June 2024, when an Okotoks Oilers Hockey Association employee told RCMP that a former employee had allegedly solicited and paid players for intimate images and sexual videos. Three Junior A players from Alberta and Saskatchewan have been identified as victims, all under 18 at the time of the alleged offences. The Oilers thanked King for his "tireless efforts during his three seasons" when he left in June 2024.

King, a Canadian citizen living in the United States, was arrested Friday at the Lansdowne border crossing near Kingston, Ont., and is in custody pending transfer to Alberta. Police say the Nanaimo Clippers in B.C. were unlikely to have known of the allegations when they hired him. King previously worked with teams in Fort McMurray and Brooks, Alta., and Nanaimo, B.C. Global News reports he was working at a State University of New York campus in Oswego at the time of his arrest.

Police believe there may be additional victims in B.C., Saskatchewan, Ontario, and the Alberta communities of Fort McMurray and Brooks, and have urged anyone affected or with information to contact police. The RCMP said it is not clear whether King is under investigation in the United States. The investigation remains active.
