Jamie Laboucane captured his first Rangeland Derby title at the Calgary Stampede on Sunday, July 12, fulfilling a dream that began when he was six years old watching from the stands.

The High River driver posted the fastest cumulative time on five of the 10 nights of racing, giving him confidence heading into the Dash for Cash final. Laboucane and his Panorama Advisory Group outfit stopped the clock in 1:10.12 — the fastest time of the night — to win the championship.

Laboucane had reached the Dash for Cash final twice before, finishing runner-up in both 2024 and 2025. He credited his family's decades of experience in chuckwagon racing for the breakthrough. "My dad, my brother-in-law — we've been going down to the States picking up horses. We all work together," Laboucane said. "With my dad's 45 years, my 20 and my brother-in-law's 16 years, I've got an excellent group of coaches sitting behind me."

He also praised his outriders, Kale Lajeunesse and Hayden Motowylo, saying they "rode unreal" during the race. When Laboucane crossed the finish line, he let out a roar that echoed through GMC Stadium. "That's a lifetime worth of Stampede coming out of me," he said. "I've gone from sitting in the stands as a little kid to outriding, then driving. This is a bucket-list dream come true."
