The Kiwanis Club of Calgary celebrated a major milestone Thursday when it donated its 10,000th bicycle to a child in need. Five-year-old Ace Sinclair-Larose received the landmark gift at a small ceremony, marking over a decade of the club's commitment to getting kids on wheels.

The bike program has become one of Calgary's most visible grassroots initiatives, operating in partnership with Alberta Bike Swap and coordinated by Kiwanis volunteer Darlene Kerr. The program ensures that financial barriers don't prevent children from experiencing the independence and joy of cycling.

Each donated bicycle comes fully inspected and ready to ride, reflecting the program's attention to quality and safety. The milestone represents not just a number but thousands of Calgary childhoods enriched by the simple act of pedaling around the neighbourhood.

For the Kiwanis Club, reaching 10,000 bikes is a validation of the program's model and a reminder of how local service organizations can directly shape community access to activity and play.
