A child drowned in a stormwater pond in Calgary's Legacy neighbourhood Sunday afternoon, fire and emergency officials said.
Calgary Fire Department crews were dispatched just after 1 p.m. to the pond along Legacy Main Street S.E. When they arrived, a girl had already been pulled from the water by a family member. Firefighters began CPR and continued resuscitation efforts until paramedics took over, but the child was declared deceased at the scene.
Battalion Chief Bruce Barrs said sonar equipment and a surface scan confirmed no other people had been submerged. A STARS air ambulance was called but did not transport a patient.
