Mission Memorial Hospital's emergency department will close overnight Sunday due to physician staffing shortages.

The closure starts at 5 p.m. and continues until 8 a.m. Monday. Patients arriving before 5 p.m. will be seen by a physician by the end of the evening shift at 11 p.m., Fraser Health said.

During the closure, emergency-trained nurses will remain on site to help walk-in patients needing basic care, assist with redirecting care, and transfer patients with urgent needs to nearby hospitals.

Anyone experiencing a life-threatening emergency should call 911. Those patients will be transported to the nearest available and appropriate facility.

All other services at Mission Memorial Hospital remain available during the ER closure. Earlier this month, the emergency department operated on reduced hours, accepting patients only between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Fraser Health continues to grapple with staffing constraints across the region.
