Mount Royal University is investigating a cyber attack that disrupted its systems on Wednesday, June 17.

When the issue was identified, the university took prompt steps to contain the threat and protect its systems. MRU has retained external cyber security experts to assist with the response and investigation, and is following its established incident response protocols.

The investigation is still in its early stages. The university has not yet determined whether any personal information or other data was accessed or taken.

Along with its main website being disrupted, the university's online service MyMRU, on-campus internet access, telephone services and other services have been affected. Google services, including Gmail, remain available.

MRU remained open on Thursday and students were encouraged to attend their exams as scheduled unless they have been notified otherwise. Employees were encouraged to work remotely, if possible.

All on-campus security and safety systems, including the fire detection and alarm system, are operating normally.
