One of Alberta's largest outdoor water parks has opened for the season in Blackfalds, about an hour and a half from Calgary—close enough for a day trip.

The Outdoor Aquatic Centre at Abbey Centre features a spray park with tot slides and giant tipping buckets, a leisure pool with zero-depth beach entry and two three-story water slides, and a Jr. Olympic pool with a one-meter diving board and 10-foot rock wall. There's also a 15-person hot tub for post-swim relaxation.

The facility opened last week and will operate on a spring schedule until June 28, 2026, then transitions to full summer hours. Capacity is capped at 400 for the spray park and leisure pools, and 150 for the Jr. Olympic pool, so peak times can fill quickly.

While you're there, the Abbey Centre also houses an indoor play space spanning six levels and 2,600 square feet, plus an outdoor dinosaur-themed playground. For families looking to escape the city without driving hours north to Edmonton, Blackfalds is becoming a destination for summer days—water, slides, and a hot tub in one stop.
