Calgary Police Service and Calgary Search and Rescue Association volunteers were searching the southernmost of the Saddlecreek Ponds in Saddle Ridge on Saturday morning. The search followed reports of a disturbance and a suspicious vehicle Friday around 1:30 p.m.
Police located the vehicle, and several people ran from it. Witnesses reported one person throwing an object into the pond near its southwest corner. A Calgary Police Service spokesperson said the object may be a weapon. "We think it may be a weapon, but we aren't exactly sure," the spokesperson said Saturday morning. "We're just trying to ensure public safety by ensuring that it either is a weapon that we can recover, or it wasn't a weapon to begin with."
Police described Friday's disturbance as a conflict between two groups of people. Park space around the pond remains open to the public during the search. Police have not said whether anyone was arrested or charged, and no statement has been given by the people who ran from the vehicle.
