The final steel beam went into the roof of Scotia Place on Monday, marking a major construction milestone for Calgary's new Flames arena. More than 1,000 tradespeople gathered on-site for a BBQ to celebrate the moment as the roofline takes shape.
Scotia Place remains on track for a fall 2027 opening, with the entire exterior now visible from blocks away throughout downtown and the surrounding area. In August, crews continued framing around the northwest entrance and installed tree wells along the west perimeter.
The project is being funded by the City of Calgary, the Flames, and other partners. The Flames will play their final season at the Saddledome before moving into the new venue.
As construction progresses on the interior and exterior work, the project continues to meet its timeline for opening. The new arena will replace the iconic Saddledome as the city's primary hockey venue.
