Stampeders re-sign star defensive lineman Jaylon Hutchings

All-CFL defender returns with three-year contract after NFL stint ended due to injury.

The Calgary Stampeders have brought back Jaylon Hutchings, the defensive lineman who emerged as a league star last season, signing him to a three-year contract through 2028.

Hutchings, 26, became an all-CFL selection last year after a turnaround 2025 campaign. In 17 starts, he recorded 39 defensive tackles, eight sacks, three tackles for losses, and two knockdowns — performances that made him a key anchor in the Stampeders' defensive line.

The team released him in January to pursue an NFL opportunity with the Minnesota Vikings, but injury cut his audition short down south. A change in management at Minnesota and a timely injury ended his time with the team, bringing him back to Calgary.

"It's great to have Hutch back," said Stampeders GM and head coach Dave Dickenson. "For him to make a three-year commitment to us is a huge deal. He was a force up front for us last season, and his return will further bolster our defence and make us a better team."

Hutchings originally signed with Calgary in October 2024 and appeared in 19 games across the 2024 and '25 campaigns. His return strengthens the Stampeders' defence as they aim to bring a Grey Cup back to McMahon Stadium. He also appeared in the Western Semi-Final against BC, recording a pair of sacks.
