WestJet has announced a new nonstop weekly flight from Calgary to Merida, Mexico, marking the airline's first-ever service to the Yucatán region from YYC Calgary Airport.

Flights will launch on December 17, 2026, providing what the airline describes as the only nonstop connection between Merida and Western Canada. Merida is known as the cultural capital of Yucatán and is noted for its rich history, famous colonial architecture, and distinct cuisine.

"We know that Calgarians are always eager for direct flights south, and this new weekly flight to Merida puts another sunny vacation spot on the map," said Balazs Bogats, chief commercial officer at Calgary Airports, in a statement.

With this addition, WestJet will serve 50 sun destinations from 15 Canadian cities during the peak winter travel season, the most of any other Canadian airline. The airline has had a busy year expanding service from Calgary, with previous announcements including new domestic routes and additional Mexico flights.

It's been a strong period for sun-destination expansion from YYC, with Flair Airlines and Air Canada also announcing new Mexico flights from the city.
