Five standout events to anchor your weekend
UFest Ukrainian Festival, Edmonton Drag Festival, and an Elks home opener round out a full slate from May 29 to 31.
The long weekend is here, and Edmonton has plenty to pull you out of the house.
UFest Ukrainian Festival returns to Borden Park (7507 Borden Park Rd. NW) Friday and Saturday, May 29-30. It's Western Canada's largest multi-day Ukrainian festival, and it's free. Expect Ukrainian culture, food, music, dance, and the kind of all-ages fun that makes festivals feel like home turf for the community.
The Edmonton Drag Festival takes over Sir Winston Churchill Square Friday through Sunday, May 29-31. Three days of electrifying performances, dazzling costumes, and nonstop entertainment celebrating drag, queer culture, and community. There are free events and paid ticketed shows.
The CFL season kicks off Friday night at Commonwealth Stadium (11000 Stadium Rd. NW) when the Edmonton Elks host the Calgary Stampeders at 7 p.m. Ticket prices vary and are available online.
Fort Edmonton Park is open Wednesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 7000 143rd St. NW. It's Canada's largest living history museum—visitors can walk through a recreation of the 1846 fort and streets from 1885 to 1920. Adult admission is $27.90.
The Canada-Wide Science Fair runs through Saturday, May 30, at the Edmonton Expo Centre (7515 118th Ave. NW). Four hundred of Canada's top young scientists in grades 7 to 12 are on display—free to visit and worth your time if you're into seeing what the next generation is building.
There's enough here to fill the whole weekend without repeating yourself.
