Spirit Halloween opens four pop-up stores across Edmonton in early August

While most Edmontonians are still in summer mode, Spirit Halloween is already preparing the city for spooky season.

As of Tuesday, August 4, two Spirit Halloween stores are open to shoppers: one in the former Bed Bath & Beyond location at West Edmonton Mall and another in the vacated Rona building in south Edmonton. Two additional locations are set to open later this month—one in north Edmonton at the former Toys R Us and one in west Edmonton at the ex-WestWorld Computer store.

Spirit Halloween, owned by Spencer Gifts, operates over 1,600 locations across North America. The company describes itself as "the world's largest Halloween retailer."

"We expect 2026 to be another killer year thanks to our ever-expanding and in-demand collection of new and returning costumes, accessories, and décor, along with our industry-leading lineup of animatronics," said Mary Griswold, the company's marketing and public relations associate, in a statement.

With 88 days remaining until Halloween, the chain's arrival signals the start of the seasonal shopping rush. The pop-up model—opening stores in vacant retail spaces and closing after the holiday—has become Spirit Halloween's trademark strategy, generating frequent social media jokes about their rapid deployment.
