Leduc celebrates Royal Canadian Legion's 100th anniversary with veteran stories and camaraderie

Leduc's Branch 108 of the Royal Canadian Legion gathered on Friday, July 17 to celebrate the organization's 100th birthday and renew commitment to supporting veterans, first responders, and those in need.
The Royal Canadian Legion was created on July 17, 1926. A century later, branches across Canada marked the milestone. Membership is free through the end of the year in recognition of the important anniversary.
Branch 108 President Steve Stamhuis hosted the gathering, where loyal members enjoyed camaraderie, cake, and military stories shared by local veterans. Dignitaries from nearby municipalities attended: City of Leduc Councillor Bretton Baynes delivered remarks, joined by Councillor Jill Spinks. City of Beaumont Councillor Philip Penrod shared progress on a local cenotaph project, to which RCL Branch 108 happily contributed.
"We look ahead with confidence, knowing that the values the Legion represents – remembrance, community and respect – will continue to inspire future generations and shape our growing community," Baynes said.
