The United Conservative Party has nominated Jordan Walker as its candidate for Sherwood Park in the next provincial election, setting up a potential rematch with NDP MLA Kyle Kasawski, who defeated him in 2023.

Walker won the party nomination Friday after defeating Kathy Flett in a vote of local party members. The announcement came via the UCP's official Instagram account.

Walker represented Sherwood Park from 2019 to 2023 as part of the UCP's 2019 majority government, when he served as parliamentary secretary for rural health. The party highlighted his work securing funding for schools, playgrounds and health-care investments, as well as his current role in investment attraction.

Kasawski, the current NDP MLA, defeated Walker by a narrow margin in the 2023 provincial election — making Sherwood Park one of several Edmonton-area ridings that swung between the two parties. Alberta's next fixed election date is expected in 2027, and both major parties have begun nominating candidates and organizing local campaigns.

Walker is among the latest former UCP MLAs seeking a return to the legislature as both parties prepare for the next election.
