United Conservative Party members in Sherwood Park will choose their candidate for the next provincial election on August 22, voting from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Robin Hood Association, located at 141 Broadway Boulevard.
Two candidates are seeking the nomination: Jordan Walker, the former UCP MLA who held the riding from 2019 to 2023, and Kathy Flett, a Sherwood Park political activist and former president of the local UCP constituency association.
Walker was defeated by NDP candidate Kyle Kasawski in the 2023 provincial election. Before entering politics, Walker worked as an education assessor with the Alberta government and spent a year teaching English in Japan. During his 2019-2023 term, he served as a parliamentary secretary and sat on several legislative committees, including the treasury board and public accounts committees.
Flett is a business owner and community volunteer active in the Alberta independence movement through the Alberta Women's Independence Network and Alberta Prosperity Project. She was a former independent candidate in Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville and ran unsuccessfully for Strathcona County council in the October 2025 municipal election. At a January 2026 event in Red Deer, Flett said Alberta's separation should "pave the way for other provinces to follow our lead."
The Sherwood Park News asked both candidates about the UCP's 2023 defeat, Alberta independence, health care, faith in politics, and why members should choose them, but neither responded by the publication deadline.
The winner will become the UCP candidate in Sherwood Park for the next provincial election.
