The Cameron Heights community has raised more than $11,000 for two families whose homes were destroyed in a fire Tuesday afternoon.

Two homes on Cameron Ravine Way and Cameron Ravine Drive were damaged by flames. The Cameron Heights Community League organized the relief effort, collecting items like toiletries, clothing, pet food, and chargers at the community league's hall. Donations of grocery store and pharmacy gift cards are also being requested.

Malina Ukrainian Bakery, a neighbourhood business, stepped up by offering food and drink to the affected families. The community league's board set up an online fundraiser that reached over $11,000 by Wednesday.

"During this incredibly difficult time, we are asking our community to come together and support those affected," the fundraiser stated. "Every donation, no matter the size, will help provide essential items and assist these families as they begin the long process of rebuilding their lives."

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services responded to the blaze Tuesday at 4:18 p.m. Five units were initially dispatched, with crews arriving six minutes later. Three additional units were called after a second-alarm fire was declared. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and no injuries were reported.
