Two homes on Cameron Ravine Way in southwest Edmonton were destroyed and a third damaged in a major fire that broke out July 15 at 4:18 p.m.

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services arrived six minutes later to find two side-by-side homes already burning at 2023 and 2021 Cameron Ravine Way. The blaze was quickly upgraded to a second alarm, bringing nine crews — nearly 40 firefighters — to the scene. Thick black smoke and flames were visible from several kilometres away. On a day when temperatures felt like 29 degrees with humidity, ladder trucks hosed down the homes from above while firefighters with axes and chainsaws worked from the ground.

Global News also spotted fire damage to a third home at 2025 Cameron Ravine Way. No injuries were reported. A woman who lived in one of the burning homes told reporters everyone inside got out safely.

The neighbourhood strip mall two houses down — home to Woodshed Burgers and a daycare — was evacuated as a precaution. In a social media post, Woodshed Burgers owner Chef Paul Shufelt said the eatery opened its doors to the daycare while the situation developed, prioritizing the children's safety.

The cause remains under investigation.
