One person is dead after a fire broke out at a mixed-use building near 82 Street and 132 Avenue on Edmonton's north side Monday night, July 8.
Edmonton Fire Rescue Services received the call at 9:19 p.m. and arrived four minutes later. A second alarm was called shortly thereafter, and 11 crews responded to the scene. The building houses businesses on the ground floor and apartments on the upper two floors. All occupants were evacuated.
Between eight and 10 ambulances were at the scene. Police closed 82 Street between 137 Avenue and Yellowhead Trail in all directions as emergency crews responded.
Thick smoke was visible from several kilometres away. Authorities have not yet released details about the victim or the cause of the fire.
