Edmonton police are searching for a man already convicted of fraud who is accused of returning to the same scheme immediately after his release on probation.
Ryan Kenzie, 46, was convicted of nine fraud-related offences committed in Edmonton and Sherwood Park between April and October 2025. In each case, he contacted people selling items like phones, watches, or jewellery. He would meet them, take the item, and claim he'd sent an e-transfer—but the transfers never went through.
After serving his sentence, Kenzie was released into the community on probation. Police allege he has now engaged in about a dozen new fraudulent buy-and-sell transactions using the same method.
"The repeated nature of these incidents suggests this individual may have targeted many more people," said Edmonton police west division Const. Emily Kostuik. An arrest warrant has been issued.
Police are urging anyone who believes they were defrauded to contact investigators. The force is also promoting Buy and Sell Exchange Zones—designated locations at police station parking lots that are well-lit and monitored by video. Officers remind buyers and sellers to meet in these safe zones, bring someone with them, ask for photo ID, and take screenshots of all communications and advertisements.
Similar safe zones exist at police stations throughout Alberta.
