Edmonton police arrested a 22-year-old man with suspected ties to the For Brothers gang, an organized crime network known for targeting South Asian business owners and community members across Canada.
Safaldeep Singh was pulled over during a traffic stop on June 23, and officers found controlled substances and a loaded firearm. He was initially charged with drug trafficking and firearms offences in Edmonton. On June 26, he was transferred to Ontario to face additional charges including conspiracy to commit murder and extortion, according to the release.
The For Brothers gang is linked to shootings and extortion that have targeted victims across the Greater Toronto Area, Canada, and the United States. Investigators found evidence at Singh's residence suggesting connections to vehicle re-vinning operations linked to extortion-related crimes.
The investigation involved coordinated work between Edmonton Police Service, Peel Regional Police in Ontario, and the Canada Border Services Agency. Staff Sergeant Eric Stewart of the EPS said the multi-jurisdictional approach has been crucial to connecting violent occurrences across provinces and holding those responsible accountable.
