Canada's immigration tribunal ordered the deportation of Jashandeep Singh on Friday, marking another expulsion in the ongoing crackdown on the Lawrence Bishnoi gang's extortion networks across Canada.

Singh, described as a "bottom-tier" associate of the Bishnoi gang in Edmonton, came to Canada on a student visa in 2022 but became caught up in the gang's violent operations. Edmonton police identified him from video footage found on seized phones, according to testimony at his Immigration and Refugee Board hearing. Police said Singh was recorded holding a handgun that was used in a May 19, 2025, extortion shooting in Surrey, B.C., targeting a South Asian business owner. The same weapon was fired hours later in Edmonton, investigators testified.

Police characterized Singh as a "soldier" in the gang's hierarchy, operating under mid-level member Arshdeep Singh. The immigration board found Singh not credible when he denied gang involvement, noting numerous inconsistencies in his statements to investigators. His defence that he was intoxicated and joking when holding the gun was rejected.

Singh's deportation reflects the Bishnoi gang's reliance on temporary foreign workers and student visa holders to carry out street-level extortion. The gang, headed by Lawrence Bishnoi from an Indian prison, has targeted South Asian business owners and individuals across B.C., Alberta, and Ontario with demands for money backed by threats of violence. Every individual identified in Edmonton Police investigations has held a student or temporary work visa.
