A 19-year-old man faces charges after an unprovoked stabbing attack on a woman near Knottwood Road last month.

Edmonton police arrested 19-year-old John Cabeza Cuero in connection with a stabbing that occurred on May 11 near Knottwood Road and Mill Woods Road.

The victim, a 24-year-old woman, was walking home around 10:48 p.m. when she was approached by an unknown male suspect who stabbed her in an unprovoked attack before fleeing on foot. She was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Cuero is facing charges of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and assault with a weapon. He is expected to appear in court on June 18.
