A 19-year-old man has been arrested after an unprovoked knife attack on a woman in Mill Woods on May 11.

The 24-year-old victim was walking home near Knottwood Road and Mill Woods Road around 10:48 p.m. when she was approached and stabbed without warning. She was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police do not believe the suspect and victim knew each other.

John Cabeza Cuero was arrested on June 8. He is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and assault with a weapon.

Constable Andrew Jarvis with the investigative response team said: "Everyone has a right to be safe in our city, and we will continue to work closely with members of the public to investigate reported concerns, alongside our proactive policing efforts that are focused on maintaining safety in our shared spaces."

Cabeza Cuero's next court date is set for Wednesday, June 17.
