Man charged after unprovoked knife attack in Mill Woods

A 19-year-old man has been charged after an unprovoked knife attack on a woman walking home in Mill Woods on May 11.
The 24-year-old victim was walking near Knottwood Road and Mill Woods Road around 10:48 p.m. when the assailant stabbed her before fleeing on foot. She was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say the suspect and victim were not known to each other.
A suspect was arrested on June 8. John Cabeza Cuero is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and assault with a weapon. His next court date is set for June 17 in Edmonton.
"Everyone has a right to be safe in our city," said Const. Andrew Jarvis with the investigative response team. "We are thankful that the woman who was attacked did not sustain life-threatening injuries and that we were able to successfully locate and arrest the male suspect."
