Jordan Martinook, who grew up and played minor hockey in Leduc, is a Stanley Cup champion. The Carolina Hurricanes won the Cup on Sunday, June 14, with a 3-0 shutout victory over the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final.
Martinook had five points (two goals and three assists) in 19 games during the playoffs, averaging 16:09 minutes of ice time. In the regular season, he had 29 points (12 goals and 17 assists) in 77 games.
The Hurricanes made the playoffs each year since Martinook joined the team for the 2018-19 season. While they had gone on deep runs before — making the Eastern Conference Final three times — they couldn't advance to the Cup Final until this season.
Carolina went 12-1 in the first three rounds to earn the right to play Vegas, and finished 16-3 in the playoffs overall.
Martinook played minor hockey in Leduc with the U15 and U18 Leduc Oil Kings before moving on to junior play with the Drayton Valley Thunder of the AJHL.
