Edmonton gets its first non-stop flight to Europe. WestJet will launch weekly service from Edmonton to Reykjavik starting Friday, June 26, with return flights beginning the next day.
The route eliminates the layover Edmontonians typically faced when heading to Iceland or connecting onward to continental Europe. Flights will operate on WestJet's Boeing 737 MAX fleet, equipped with free Wi-Fi and modern in-flight amenities.
The airline announced the new service last November as part of its summer 2026 expansion. Guðmundur Daði Rúnarsson, chief commercial and airport development officer at Keflavík International Airport, called it a sign of WestJet's confidence in the Iceland market and a boost for North American-Iceland connectivity.
Edmonton joins Winnipeg as the two new North American gateways for the Reykjavik route. The move reflects broader investment in YEG's international profile after years of hub-focused service through Calgary.
