Marugame Udon, a hand-crafted noodle restaurant born in Japan in 2000, is opening a location in Edmonton at West Edmonton Mall.

The restaurant is known for holding true to the authentic tradition of Sanuki udon, which originated centuries ago in the Kagawa Prefecture in southern Japan. Marugame's signature approach is handcrafted udon bowls and tempura prepared in a lively open kitchen, allowing guests to watch as their food is made. The noodles are made daily from just three ingredients — flour, water, and salt — in a time-consuming craft dedicated to serving the most authentic Sanuki udon possible.

Marugame currently operates three Canadian locations: in Calgary, Vancouver, and Toronto. The Edmonton location is the fourth expansion in Canada and represents growth into Alberta's capital. The exact opening date has not yet been announced, but the team has signaled the opening is coming soon through social media hints, including an Oilers-themed GIF that Edmonton residents caught on to. Edmontonians should keep an eye on the restaurant's social channels for the announcement.
