Edmonton's food scene expanded this summer with a diverse set of new openings, from family-owned gelato to authentic South Indian and Japanese cuisine.

Shooby's Gelato opened June 5 at 4513 101st Street NW, bringing 40 years of family gelato heritage to a brick-and-mortar location after years of market appearances. The locally made gelato and sorbet shop has drawn steady crowds since launch.

Live Bowl'd, which debuted June 23 at 10336 Whyte Avenue, continues Edmonton's growing smoothie bowl trend with a permanent Whyte Ave location after previous market runs. Mochido, at 9450 137th Avenue NW, started its soft-opening phase in mid-July, operating from 11 a.m. daily until donuts sell out.

Dosa Glory, which opened around a month ago at 9316 34th Avenue NW (Unit U19), brings South Indian cuisine without diluting cultural authenticity or flavour. Sushi Bar Goshen, at 2846 James Mowatt Trail SW, offers omakase-style dining with only 10 counter seats, led by chefs with over 20 years of experience.

Two more restaurants are coming soon. Sip Soda Co., slated for August at 10514 82nd Avenue (Unit 10512) on Whyte Avenue, will expand the ultra-popular dirty soda chain's reach. Marugame Udon, made fresh daily from flour, water, and salt, is opening at West Edmonton Mall with no exact date announced yet—the chain currently operates in Calgary, Vancouver, and Toronto.
