Bazaar, a new Ukrainian and Eastern European restaurant, has opened in Edmonton's Station Park in Old Strathcona, filling a gap left by recent closures in the city's Ukrainian food scene.
The establishment officially opened its doors on July 1 and is currently in soft-opening phase with limited hours: 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The team behind the concept spent three years building community through events before creating this space, and they describe their mission as bringing people together through food and celebration.
The menu features both traditional and inventive dishes. Ukrainian Style Shawarma leads the offerings—the team notes that while shawarma isn't traditionally Ukrainian, it has become one of the country's favourite street foods over the past decade. Also available are Cheese Cheburek, Ukrainian Style Hot Dog, and Sour Cherry Varenyky. The savoury side includes Pork Shashlyk, Chicken and Turkey Pelmeni, and Shrimp Shawarma, with Vanilla and Raspberry Milkshakes rounding out the drink selection. The menu is subject to change during the soft-opening phase.
