This is a week where the forecast dictates your plans. Sunday through Thursday bring thunderstorms, hail, and near-constant drizzle — temperatures hovering between 14 and 23 degrees, the kind of stretch that sends you indoors. Friday clears slightly but stays cool and damp. Saturday reverts to hail again. If you're planning ahead, prioritize the covered events early and save anything outdoor-leaning for the slim window late in the week.

Jurassic Quest rolls into the Edmonton EXPO Centre on Sunday at noon, and if you have kids or a nostalgic streak, this is the draw of the week. Animatronic dinosaurs, interactive experiences, and the kind of spectacle that justifies dragging a family out on a thunderstorm morning — bring an umbrella and settle in for a couple of hours. The same venue hosts Indian actor and artist Vishal on Tuesday evening at 8 PM, and country trio BlackHawk on Friday at 7 PM. BlackHawk brings a sharp contemporary country sound to the Midway downtown on July 3rd.

The marquee music event lands in Enoch on Thursday: Gowan, the Canadian rock stalwart known for progressive and hard rock, plays River Cree Resort & Casino at 8 PM. It's a short drive from downtown — about 14 kilometres — and worth the trip if you want something more substantial than a venue show. Gowan's the real thing.

Inside the comedy circuit, Dedrick Flynn takes the stage at Rick Bronson's — The Comic Strip on Saturday at 7:30 PM, right when the weather turns foul again.

Sports fans have a few options. The Edmonton Stingers face Saskatoon Mamba at the EXPO Centre on Sunday at 4 PM — basketball if you want something warm and contained. The Energy City Cactus Rats host Okotoks and Weyburn in Spruce Grove, just outside the city, if you're into summer baseball.

Beyond the marquee events, the city's dining scene is shifting. Sazón Venezuelan Experience, on Whyte Ave, is running $20 empanada specials with proceeds going to Venezuelan earthquake relief — a real meal with real purpose. PlayWright's fine-dining spot at the Citadel is closing after months of struggle, but sister café Ghostlight stays open if you want to stay in that orbit. Marugame Udon, the hand-crafted noodle restaurant, is confirming its opening at West Edmonton Mall — that's worth tracking for a quick, clean bowl on a rainy day.

Big Island Provincial Park, tucked in southwest Edmonton along the North Saskatchewan River, remains the city's best-kept secret — nearly 80 hectares reachable only by water, a genuine escape. It's not a this-week activity unless you're seriously planning ahead, but know it exists.

With this much rain bearing down, grab coffee at Pip for brunch before Monday afternoon, or book a seat at Woodwork late in the week for a proper cocktail when the hail finally settles. If I had one night out, I'd catch Gowan on Thursday in Enoch — real live rock in a resort room beats sheltering indoors watching another thunderstorm roll through.
